5 Things to Consider When Replacing Your Home Furnace

Home Gas Furnace

With temperatures dropping and staying cold consistently, you may have turned your home furnace on.  If your furnace is old and not keeping your home warm, it may be time to consider purchasing a new one.  Right now Majestic AC has some attractive options on replacing your aging heating system.  So let’s go over 5 things to consider when picking a new furnace for your home.

1. Get the most efficient furnace you can afford.

If you invest in a higher efficiency home furnace, it will pay itself back in increased energy savings over the lifetime of the unit.  New furnaces are by design much more efficient than your old heater simply due to the technological advances.  Greater efficiency equals less wasted energy, better performance, lower operating costs and typically longer life.  Efficiency for furnaces are measured in AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) which means the higher the AFUE rating, the greater the efficiency. As an example, our Trane S9X1 Gas Furnace has an AFUE rating of 96% and is Energy Star® qualified.

2. Get the correct size furance for your home.

Size does matter when it comes to home furnaces.  Get one too big and it will keep turning on and off, which is inefficient and will increase operating costs.  Get one too small and it just simply will not be able to keep your home at the temperature you want.  It will run all the time, increasing your energy bills.  In both cases, the mismatch could shorten the service life of your furnace investment.  At Majestic AC, a Comfort Consultant will run tests to ensure you get the perfect size to keep your home nice and comfortable in the winter.

3. Use or purchase a programmable thermostat

Just like in the summer, using a programmable thermostat will increase the efficiency of the entire HVAC system.  For each degree that you lower the temperature setting in the winter can reduce your heating bill by up to 2%.  So your home can be cooler when no one is home.  The Sleep Foundation recommends temperatures between 60-67º F for optimal sleep.  A programmable smart thermostat can be easily set to modify the temperature setting throughout the week.

4. Warranty

Warranties are provided by the manufacturer and serviced by the HVAC company.  More efficient furnaces typically have longer warranties and will most likely cost more.  Majestic AC and Trane offers great warranties on the furnaces they sell and install.  Talk to one of our representatives for a full explanation of the warranties, what they cover and for how long.

5. Rebates, Incentives and Special Offers

Throughout the year, Majestic AC offers great offers that can significantly impact how much our HVAC systems cost.  As an example, we have Trane consumer rebates along with dealer incentives and rebates from energy companies.  And for a limited time, you can stack all three incentives.  Contact us today for more details.
